A central figure of Dada and Surrealism, Man Ray expanded the expressive possibilities of photography through techniques such as solarization and his cameraless "rayographs". In Le baiser, he brings the faces of Lee Miller, his collaborator and fellow photographer, and an unidentified woman into a tightly framed composition that transforms an intimate gesture into a study of form and desire.
