Primarily known for his portrait photography, Fritz Eschen photographed a wide range of prominent figures, including industrialists, artists, politicians, actors, writers and scientists. Rather than relying on conventional studio settings, he frequently portrayed his subjects in their familiar surroundings - at work, in their studios or offices, or at home. His approach emphasised the relationship between individuals and their environments, resulting in intimate, often informal portraits that reveal both the character of his sitters and their professional and personal lives.
