Movements, Female, Toilet; Preparing to Put on Clothing. 1884-85. Collotype, printed 1887. Plate 415 from Animal Locomotion, vol. IV, Women (Nude). 17 x 43 cm (sheet 35 x 49,5 cm). Printed below image with copyright notice, title and plate number.

Part of the Women (Nude) section of Animal Locomotion, this plate records an everyday action through a sequence of timed exposures. Its measured progression transforms a conventional figure study into a precise analysis of bodily movement, demonstrating the productive tension between Muybridge’s scientific method and the work’s lasting visual force. Another impression is in the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia.
