Galdi’s studies of the female nude move deliberately between academic idealization and fin-de-siècle eroticism. In this poised studio composition, the seated model is accompanied by doves - traditional attributes of Venus - which lend the scene a lightly mythological register. The constructed pose and controlled illumination temper its sensuality with an almost sculptural clarity.
