Photographer: William Henry Jackson (1843 - 1942), Charles Roscoe Savage (1832 - 1909) and unknown. Early images of American cities and settlements. 1880s - 1890s. 8 albumen prints. Each circa 19 x 23 cm and smaller. 3 with photographer's initials/name, title and number in the negative in lower corners, each mounted to board (some soiling), a few annotated in English in ink on mount verso.

Most with strong tones and in very good condition.

Images of geological surveys, bridges and lands...

Lotto 4004

Photographer: William Henry Jackson (1843 - 1942) and unknown. Images of geological survey groups, bridges and landscapes in the American West. 1880s - 1892. 10 albumen prints. Each circa 10,5 x 16,5 cm and 11,5 x 19,5 cm. 5 with photographer's initials, title and number in the negative in lower corners, each mounted to board (some soiling), a few annotated in English in ink on mount verso.

This very interesting group contains three images by William Henry Jackson: 3619 "A 'Cow Boy'; 808 "The Royal Gorge" and 1828 "High Bridge in Loop". Two other images 4625 "Dale Creek Bridge" and 5003 "Canon Diablo Bridge" are by other photographers. A further two images show survey groups, one annotated in ink by the surveyor William Kennedy: "Kennedy's party surveying Tertiary Area of Texas. Geological survey of Texas September 1892. Near Calvert, Robertson County, Texas. With the best regards of William Kennedy" on the verso. – Most with strong tones and in very good condition.

Views of Switzerland. Circa 1900. 12 collotypes. Circa 22 x 15,5 cm. Signed by the photographer and publisher's name (Sadag) in the negative in lower left/right corner, mounted to board (time-stained in edges).

F. Boissonnas showed a selection of his images from his Swiss series at the World's Fair in 1900 in Paris for which he won a Gold Medal. The group also includes two small images of Greece. – In very good condiiton.

Images of Auteuil near Paris during the Franco-Prussian War. 1870. 4 albumen prints. Each circa 19 x 29 cm. Mounted to board (some traces of use, edges time-stained), handwritten text in pencil below the images on the mounts, 1 photo with photographer's name (illegible) in ink below photo on mount.

The town of Auteuil suffered heavy destruction during the Franco-Prussian War. One photograph shows Bastion no. 40 at Porte St. Cloud. The other three show a French bastion with cannons in Auteuil, as well as destruction in and around Auteuil. – Some scuff marks and light surface soiling, otherwise in good condition. With: Unknown photographer. View of the main portal of Reims cathedral with heavy damage suffered during the Franco-Prussian War. 1870/71. Albumen print. 21,5 x 27 cm. Mounted to board (soiled). - Some scuff marks, otherwise in good condition.
