Atget, Eugène / Pierre Gassmann
Flower vendor, Maison 108 rue Moliere, Rouen

Lot 4081

"Flower vendor, Maison 108 rue Molière, Rouen". Circa 1907/printed 1977 from the original negative. Brown-toned contact gelatin silver print on fine photographic paper. 23,5 x 17,5 cm. Copyright stamp Négatif de la collection des archives photographiques des monuments historiques, Pierre Gassmann's signature stamp with the year 1977 on the verso.

In 1977 Pierre Gassmann reprinted some of Atget's negatives for an exhibition with astonishing results. Many of Atget's negatives had many more details and contrasts than were apparent in Atget's own prints. Gassmann stressed that these prints made visible what Atget himself had seen when taking his photographs which, however, could not be fully developed with the techniques Atget used when he printed. – In excellent condition.
