Landscapes, temples and village scenes of India. 1855 - 1890s. 21 albumen prints. Various sizes, most circa 18 x 24 cm. Most annotated in pencil on the verso.

One image shows an outdoor missionary school, Indian village scenes, one with an old locomotive, two landscapes and cave temples by Frith as well as a group portrait by Shepherd and Robertson. – Some slightly faded, light handling marks, some curled, otherwise in good condition.

Interesting collection of group portraits showing the consuls of England, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and others. Further images include the Masonic Lodge of Lahore from 1866, a tableaux vivants of young English actors and attendants of the Native Missionary Delegates Conference 1885. – Some faded, especially in edges, some surface scuff marks, otherwise in good condition.

The Maharaja of Bharatpur Jaswunt Singh

Lot 4059

Photographer: Shepherd & Robertson. The Maharaja Jaswant Singh of Bharatpur and courtiers. 1862. Albumen print. 21,7 x 28,7 cm. Mounted to card, annotated in ink above the image on the mount.

This image shows the young Maharaja of Bharatpur, aged eleven, in his court in 1862. The young prince is seated in the center of his guddee or royal seat, which is of velvet and richly embroidered with gold. Behind him are four servants. In two rows on either side of the Rajah, the nobles and sirdars of the state are seated, who may be relatives, or officers in various parts of the state services. – Slightly faded in edges, some light surface scuff marks, otherwise in good condition.
