Satirical photo collages. 1960s. 2 photo collages using 19th century CDV portraits. Each monogrammed in pencil in lower right corner.

Rare and curious objects, these portrait photo collages were inspired by Dada and Surrealism. Stepan used other photos and objects, adding new meaning and humor to the rather conventional cabinet portraits of the late 19th century. These are prime examples of Stepan's surreal and fantastical work. – In very good condition.

Marilyn Monroe - The Last Sitting, "Not Bad for 36!". 1962/printed later. Chromogenic color print on Kodak Professional paper. Circa 47,7 x 47,5 cm (60,5 x 50,5 cm). Signed and editioned 175/250 by the photographer in black marker in lower margin, mounted in mat.

Colors slightly shifted, a few light handling marks in mid portion, otherwise in very good condition.

Dress mannequins. 1950s. Vintage gelatin silver print. 23,8 x 29,7 cm. Photographer's copyright stamp and annotated in pencil/red crayon on the verso.

Most famous for his moody pictures of James Dean walking the streets of New York, the photographer Dennis Stock has created many iconic images of 1950s/60s America. – Creases in corners, especially in lower left with some emulsion cracking, otherwise a fine tonal print in good condition.

Foto-Grafik (multiple exposure). Circa 1954. Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 40 x 30,2 cm. Monogrammed by the photographer in pencil, estate stamp and signed by Maxim Strässer in pencil on the verso.

From 1947 - 1952 Herbert Strässer attended the State Art School in Saarbrücken where he studied under Hannes Neuner. From 1952 - 54 he attended the ècole nationale supérieure de beaux-arts de Paris. Strässer was a pupil of Otto Steinert under who he studied experimental photography between1954 - 55. In 1955 Steinert commissioned him with the design of the dust jacket cover for the book "subjektive fotografie 2". The influence of Fotoform and a more abstract approach to photography clearly influenced Strässer's work. He also designed many advertising posters and produced a large body of drawings and graphic works. Later Strässer turned more to sculpture and supplied the designs for several European Awards.
