This snapshot was taken in Pushkino, north of Moscow, where today many Muscovites still have their country houses. – Some light irregularities to ferrotype surface, traces of glue from previous mounting on the verso, otherwise in very good condition.

In 1973 Michael A. Russ became the cover artist for Art Direction Magazine and began photographing sequential erotic images for various magazines such as Playboy, Vogue Hommes, Il and Photoreporter. In 1983 he exhibited large-format prints in Los Angeles using his TinTone technique which are chemically toned gelatin silver prints that are then hand-colored. – Crease mark in upper mid-portion and upper right, corners slightly bumped, otherwise in very good condition.

Portrait of the Russian poet and playwright Vladimir Mayakovsky (cropped figure from original group photo). May 11, 1924/printed 1950s. Gelatin silver print with fine hand retouching. 28,7 x 13,5 cm. Annotated in pencil on the verso.

The original image from which this figure of Mayakovsky has been cropped is a group portrait showing the writer together with Tamiji Naito, Boris Pasternak, Sergei Eisenstein, Olga Tretyakova, Lilya Brik, Voznesensky and the translator. In this image his figure has been singled out and his right arm, which is partially covered by Lilya Brik in the group photo, has been added by hand-painting. – Some wear to edges and corners, light handling crease marks in upper right, otherwise in good condition.
