Studentenkarzer, Heidelberg. 1970s. 2 vintage gelatin silver prints on Agfa paper taped together as a wide format. 17,5 x 34,5 cm. Photographer's stamp, annotated in pencil on the verso.

Since the Middle Ages universities had their own independent jurisdiction and their own jails. All students and staff were subject to this jurisdiction. The image offered here shows one of the oldest preserved student karzers in Germany in Heidelberg, famous for its excessive graffiti. It was still used until the early part of the 20th century. – Some handling creases, some retouching, some traces of previous mounting on the verso, otherwise in good condition.

This image is featured on the dustjacket cover of the German edition of A. Scott Berg's book "Kate Remembered" (2003). – Minimal buckling in right edge, otherwise a fine tonal print in excellent condition.

Dave Rubinoff (1897 - 1986) was a popular violinist who played on various radio programs in the 1930s-40s and also performed in theaters and clubs. He gave several concerts at the White House in the 1940s. – Traces of previous mounting on the verso, slight edge wear, creases in margins, minimal oxidation mirroring in edges, otherwise in good condition.

Portraits from the series "Remembering" (1986 - 1996). 2 chromogenic prints on FujiCrystalArchive paper. Each 25,5 x 17 cm (30,5 x 24 cm). Each signed, editioned 1 of 2 A.P. by the photographer in black pen on the verso.

The son of Hungarian immigrants, Zoltán Jókay grew up on the outskirts of Munich. He studied photography in Essen. In the early 1990s, he attracted attention with a series of portraits entitled "Remembering" concerned with childhood as a period of vulnerability and loneliness which these two images are from. His work is in the collection of the Museum Folkwang, Essen, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Sprengel Museum Hanover as well as the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. – In very good condition.
