Portrait of Chulalongkorn with two brothers; Wat Arun seen across the Chao Phraya. 1862-67. 2 albumen prints. 19,8 x 14,4 cm and 14,7 x 20,8 cm. Each flush-mounted to board, sitter's names/locations on printed labels on mount verso.

Some fading, some with writing on verso visible on recto, some foxing spots.

The images show religious scenes and festivities, daily life, a ceremonial boat, the Royal Palace as well as a theater scene. – Some buckling, creases small tears in edges, otherwise most in very good condition.

Travel album (South Africa, Spain, Italy)

Album with views of landscapes, people, cities and monuments as well as trade and industry of South Africa (also Spain, Italy, Middle East and Zanzibar). Compiled 1897. 124 albumen prints, including some collodion paper prints. Different sizes, most between circa 15 x 20 cm and 22 x 28 cm, some smaller. Some prints (Italy) with photographer's name in the negative (16 G. Sommer, 26 Alinari, 4 Noack), mounted to red-edged album boards (slightly soiled), each album board annotated in ink in German, bound in contemporary brown half-leather album with gilt-tooled spine (edges rubbed, some scratches) and gilt-stamped initials AW and elaborate ornaments on cover. 33 x 44 cm.

An unusual album with an extensive documentation (38 photos) of different activities, factory views and landscapes of the diamond mining industry in South Africa, including some early views of the Kimberley mine in 1873, 1874 and 1878. There are also views of Italy (61), Spain (19), the Middle East (6) and Zanzibar (Colonial German East Africa, 11). – Some prints faded, otherwise most in very good condition.

Views of Spain showing picturesque landscapes and cities such as Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Gibralta, Barcelona and Toledo. – Some slightly faded, otherwise most in good to very good condition with strong contrasts.

Born in Berlin, the photographer Gustav Völkerling moved to Dessau in 1840 and in 1860 he was appointed court photographer by Leopold IV, Duke of Anhalt. – Some light surface scuff marks, light soiling in upper area, otherwise in good condition.

Errata: Der Fotograf heißt Gustav Völkerling.
